I was listening to this interview with Tobias Schneider, a designer at Spotify.
He talks about the importance of side projects and learning your craft.
A lot of designers want to immediately start building the next iPhone, or Facebook. But you have to learn to walk before you can run.
When you’re learning to walk, it doesn’t matter which direction you’re walking in. The important thing is you’re learning to walk. And when it’s time to run, you’ll be ready.
The problem is a lot of people aren’t willing to learn to walk, because the early projects can seem pointless. But they’re exercise - not the main event. Start learning to walk as early as possible, without fear.
